Sina ad revenue increases 12 percent in second-quarter

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – China’s Sina Corp reported a 12 percent increase in advertising revenue in the second quarter and grew its profit due to a gain from an equity investment. Shares of Sina were up 5.8 percent at $53.84 after hours on Wednesday. Net income attributable to Sina during the second quarter was $33.2 million, or 49 cents a share, compared to $10 million, or 15 cents a share in the year ago period. During the quarter Sina recognized a $32.8 million gain related to the merger of a real estate company in which Sina owns a 34.4 percent stake. …

Saudi Aramco says virus shuts down its computer network

RIYADH (Reuters) – Saudi Arabian Oil Co (Saudi Aramco) said its computer systems had been shut down by a virus late on Wednesday, but it added that production had not been affected. “An official source of Saudi Aramco confirmed that it had isolated electronic systems for the entire company today and cut off external access as an early precaution,” said a statement in Arabic from the company. The world’s biggest oil company said that although the virus affected some computers, it did not penetrate key components of the network, which it said would return to normal operating mode soon. …

Samsung’s unreleased Jelly Bean update hits Galaxy S III early From the looks of it, Samsung’s (005930) flagship Galaxy S III smartphone may be among the first non-Nexus Android devices to be updated to Jelly Bean. According to a YouTube video from AndroidMX, the South Korean manufacturer’s Jelly Bean update is rather far along and could be arriving sooner than we once thought. The video walk-through reveals that Samsung’s update will have almost no visual changes thanks to the TouchWiz user interface, but it will include enhanced notifications and Google Now.
